Art Düsseldorf 2024: Düsseldorf, Germany

Areal Böhler, 12 - 14 April 2024
Overview

At Art Düsseldorf, we will be showing a selection of groundbreaking works by Dieter Jung, light artist and pioneer of using holography in art, at stand F10 under the heading "Retromania & Rediscoveries: A new look at the past".

Since the 1960s, the interplay of colour, light, surface and space has been at the heart of the now 82-year-old artist's art. The discovery of holography in the 1970s led to works that expand the boundaries of the image and invite us to dance in front of the holographic object. Colours merge with emotions, the movement of the viewer in space leads to constantly changing facets and perspectives. The immersive experience of viewing the holograms encourages us to discover the complexity of being in the beauty of light and to connect it with the beauty of life.

Dieter Jung was a fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge from 1985-86, where his close friendship with Otto Piene, then director of MIT, began. Dieter Jung has been a member of the board of the ZERO Foundation since 2010. Works by Dieter Jung are exhibited and collected in major museums and institutions, such as the collection of the Metropolitan Museum or the ZKM in Karlsruhe, which dedicated a retrospective to him in 2019.
