Overview
The tactile relationship between the “real” and “virtual” is what Canogar is most interested in. Canogar's work thus captures how we interact with technology, and vice versa, how technology modifies our sense of the world around us and the social fabric of communication and connection. His background in photography has informed his present highly visual artworks, creating seemingly unescapable worlds of his own creation, driven and sourced from data from the “real” world. For Canogar the digital sphere is not a static space to explore, but an ever-changing field, from the physicality of VHS tapes, DVD's, smart phones and hard drives, to the more fluid landscape of the electronic realm.

Galerie Kornfeld is pleased to present the solo exhibition Reverberations by Spanish-American artist Daniel Canogar.

Data drives the world we live in today, from our homes to our offices, slowly creeping into every aspect of our sense of self and daily life. It is therefore no surprise that Canogar’s works raise a crucial question of our time: is this data-driven society for the better or for the worse? Bringing together a variety of recent projects, this exhibition explores the many sides of this virtual coin.

As viewers enter the moving colour fields of Canogar’s sculptures and screens, they momentarily lose sight of the physical world around them. Is it the world we can touch and feel, or the other world that exists in a complex virtual space—one that has profoundly infiltrated our society?

At the centre of Canogar’s practice lies this tactile relationship between the “real” and the “virtual.” His work captures how we interact with technology and, conversely, how technology reshapes our perception of the world, our modes of communication, and the social fabric of connection.

Canogar’s background in photography has informed his highly visual artworks, through which he creates seemingly inescapable worlds of his own making—worlds driven by and sourced from data drawn from the “real” world. For the artist, the digital sphere is not a static realm to be explored, but an ever-changing field that ranges from the physicality of VHS tapes, DVDs, smartphones, and hard drives to the more fluid and immaterial landscape of the electronic realm.

The works in Reverberations address themes such as the lifespan of consumer electronics, the evolution of digital information systems, the use of real-time data from various natural phenomena, and data streams as representations of collective consciousness. They question how data is consumed, processed, and circulated online.
