KORNFELD Galerie is pleased to announce the participation of Christopher Lehmpfuhl in Art for Peace and a Better Future: Collaboration, presented by the SBY Art Community from 18 to 30 August 2026 at Galeri Emiria Soenassa and Galeri Oesman Effendi in Taman Ismail Marzuki, Jakarta.
The exhibition brings together approximately 150 paintings by 27 Indonesian artists, including members of the SBY Art Community, young artists, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, and guest artist Christopher Lehmpfuhl. Spanning generations from 10 to 76 years of age, the presentation places different artistic experiences in direct conversation.
Lehmpfuhl’s participation also marks a cultural exchange between Jakarta and Berlin, whose sister-city relationship provides an important context for the exhibition. During his stay in Indonesia in July and August 2026, Lehmpfuhl painted alongside artists from the SBY Art Community in Jakarta, Cisarua, Borobudur, and Pacitan.
Working in the tradition of contemporary plein-air painting, Lehmpfuhl responds directly to the conditions of each place. The landscapes of Indonesia, from the dense movement of Jakarta to the monumental presence of Borobudur and the coast of Pacitan, become encounters with light, weather, colour, and material. His distinctive impasto technique, with paint applied directly by hand in thick layers, gives these impressions a physical presence.
At the centre of Art for Peace and a Better Future: Collaboration is the idea that painting can create a space for exchange. The exhibition connects artists across generations and cultures while addressing peace, solidarity, and the hope for a better future. In this context, Lehmpfuhl’s works offer a visual record of Indonesia’s varied landscapes and contribute to a dialogue between artistic practices from Indonesia and Germany.
The exhibition is on view through 30 August 2026 at Taman Ismail Marzuki, Jakarta.
