Areal Böhler, 17 - 19 April 2026
Overview

Image Spaces of Exile and Self‑Determination

Images begin where words end. In a time marked by conflict, displacement, and shifting identities, the exhibition explores how images create spaces where exile becomes thinkable and self‑determination takes form.

From this perspective, Tammam Azzam turns urban fragments into collages and paintings whose textured surfaces hold both destruction and the possibility of renewal.
Simin Jalilian uses the body as a site of negotiation, revealing how looking and being seen shape identity. Tamara Kvesitadze translates states of transition into sculptural movement, capturing the tensions between restriction and autonomy. Alireza Shojaian treats visibility as political language, portraying queer experience with a combination of vulnerability and strength. Etsu Egami explores the fragility of communication through layered bands of color that suggest meaning beyond words.

Together, these positions outline a poetics of exile. PANIC ATTACK underscores the urgency of the present—and the role of art in shaping agency where language falters.
