On 21 June, we will be showcasing 21 works by the 21 artists who have been our guests as artists-in-residence over the past ten years at 68projects by KORNFELD—with Berlin On My Mind. We are celebrating ten years of 68projects by KORNFELD and ten years of our artist-in-residence program, as well as the future we continue to shape in Berlin—a city where international artists seek new perspectives and where ideas intersect.
It all began in 2013, when KORNFELD Galerie Berlin made the bold decision to create a new space, both physically and metaphorically. This involved an extensive renovation and culminated in an inaugural exhibition in 2014, already shaped by residency artists. It was a challenging undertaking.
With Berlin On My Mind, we now have the opportunity to present all the artists who have accompanied us on part of their creative journey over the past decade. We look back on ten years of artistic work that we were able to frame temporarily—experienced with conviction and enthusiasm, and remembered with pride and gratitude. These artists have accompanied us, and we them, through time. Together, we immersed ourselves in creative spaces, challenged and inspired one another, and shared moments of joy. We experienced power as well as subtlety, intensity, and dedication.
Every creative process that began in the residency program over the past ten years started with a blank canvas and Berlin On My Mind. While the program has adapted to changing circumstances over the years, it has remained true to its core principle: to boldly and innovatively invite artists who convince us both artistically and personally, and to give them space to grow in an unfamiliar environment. Beyond providing living and working spaces, fostering exchange among artists through overlapping residencies and introducing them to Berlin’s art world has been central to 68projects by KORNFELD from the very beginning.
When visiting the exhibition at 68projects by KORNFELD, you may recognize some artists at first glance, as they found their artistic voice early on. Others may reveal themselves only at second glance, as their style has evolved over the years, or their approach has changed entirely. Accompanying such developments within an artist’s oeuvre has always been—and will remain—an essential part of the residency program. Like the artists themselves, the program is lively and unique.
