Overview

On the invitation of former Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who visited Christopher in Berlin last year and offered him this unique opportunity, the artist undertook a painting trip across Java (Indonesia). Christopher, known for his exceptional oil painting technique and ability to capture both landscapes and atmospheres with immediacy, created an extraordinary body of work during this trip.

The painting trip included five key locations: Jakarta, the Damar Langit Resort in Cisarua, the Borobudur Temple complex, the Museum and Gallery SBY-ANI in Pacitan, and the dramatic Klayar Beach on the southern coast. At each site, Christopher worked on location and engaged with members of the SBY Art Community; in Pacitan, he also had the opportunity to meet and collaborate with Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. Over the course of the trip, he produced 21 oil paintings entirely on-site, as well as 13 ink and watercolor works, some created in situ and others inspired by memory.
